![]() ![]() ![]() Seeing Uncle Vernon slowly losing his mind is hysterical, I can never read that chapter and keep a straight face. That chapter has always been one of my favorites for humor. I love his Lockhart, too.Īlso a big distinction for me is that he seems to be able to get across the humor better? I was disappointed by Jim Dale early on, in the chapter Letters From No One. His voices for goblins and house elves are better too, in my opinion. His Dumdledore has the right amount whimsy but also gravitas when necessary. I also love his version of Harry, and also that Harry and Ron’s voices are distinct from each other, whereas with Jim Dale I can sometimes lose track of which of them is speaking. Stephen Fry manages to make her sound arrogant and annoying when Harry and Ron first meet her (it was listening to his narration that made me suddenly sympathetic to their early annoyance with her lol), but also able to tone it down once they’re friends and she grows more comfortable with them (though she still has her moments). Jim Dale’s voice for her is, you could argue, fitting when she’s 11 or 12, but incredibly frustrating by POA and beyond - she’s older by then, she doesn’t need to sound like a screechy, annoying little girl. I finally managed to find a way to listen to his version, and I’m so happy I did.įirst of all, his Hermione is SO much better. As an American - I absolutely prefer Stephen Fry. ![]()
